Readers Respond: Are Downloadable Games Fairly Priced?

When the PSPgo is released, Sony aims to have games on UMD and downloadable games priced the same. Arguments can be made that this is a fair pricing strategy. Arguments can also be made that downloadable games should be priced lower that games on physical media. See what other gamers think of this idea, and share your thoughts, arguments and reasons that prices should be the same or different. Share Your Arguments

Memory Stick pricing?

Here's an example: Little Big Planet for the PSP is the exact same price ($19.99) whether you get the UMD or the digital download. This is annoying in and of itself, but don't forget that the download will take a little over 1GB of space on a Memory Stick. a 2GB memory stick (of which the remainder will remain pretty much useless, as most good psp games are over a gig) is selling for $17.99 on Amazon. this means that the ACTUAL price of the game, as a digital download, is almost $40, TWICE AS MUCH as if you had purchased the UMD. This "hidden cost" is absolutely ridiculous. I purchased my PSP very early in its life cycle (about a month after launch), and have continued to be thoroughly disappointed with both the quality and cost of games. Sony completely blew it, and I really hope they learn a lesson. Not to mention that those of us with a UMD compatible system are still subjected to CONSTANT MS-switching if we want our saved games. Garbage.

downloadable games are way over priced

Please lower downloadable games so that everyone can enjoy them, not just the ones who can afford it!

Product Discouragement

Also, people may go out and buy the UMD version anyway to prevent too many people downloading the same popular game at the same time. I remember when the first "Call of Duty: WaW" map pack came out, the Xbox Live markeplace crashed from so many people downloading it. Or even when Blizzard released its new expansion for "World of Warcraft," the physical product came out before the download so that not everybody would get it at the same time.
