Definition: Action-Adventure is a hybrid genre of video game that combines some of the puzzle-solving elements of the adventure genre with more active elements from action games.
The puzzles in action-adventure games tend to be more environmentally-based than in traditional adventure games (think of the crate-pushing puzzles in Tomb Raider compared to the musical puzzle in the original Myst, for example), and there are usually fewer enemies to dispatch compared to true action games.
Action-adventure is one of the most popular genres of video game, perhaps due to its wide appeal.
Pronunciation: AK-shun ad-VEN-chure
