Sony's PSP Minis Strategy
If you're thinking about maybe developing a PSP Minis game, or if you're just interested in how the games industry works, Gamasutra has a thoughtful article on Sony's strategy with PSP Minis.
In a recent New York Times interview, Steve Jobs himself confirmed that the Touch was being repositioned as a gaming machine to compete with Nintendo's DSi and Sony's new digital distribution-only PSP Go. This is not a challenge that Sony can afford to ignore if it hopes to be competitive in the handheld space.
It seems that many people have also connected the success of PSP Minis with the success of the PSPgo, but that isn't necessarily the case. All PSP models can download games if they have recent firmware, so even if the PSPgo failes miserably, PSP Minis still have a good chance. I know I'm excited to see what will come of it. I'll be starting a "PSP Minis Pick of the Week" soon, to let you know what gems I found.
