No Online for PSP Minis - At First
At the Game Developers Conference recently, a Sony spokesperson was quoted as saying that developers of PSP Minis would be encouraged to "target single player standalone content" and that online components would not be allowed in PSP Minis games. (Quote via PSP Updates.) More recently, however, Destructoid asked Eric Lempel, Director of PlayStation Network Operations and Strategic Planning, about the lack of multiplayer and other online features in PSP Minis. Lempel answered:
You can patch Minis, but we won't have multiplayer functions in the beginning. Basically, to get these developers on board, and to make it easier to test and get it through the pipeline, we won't be allowing that functionality for the first stage of Minis.
He did acknowledge that online functionality for PSP Minis is "something we will consider in the future."
PSP Minis will launch on the PlayStation Network on October 1, to coincide with the launch of the PSPgo.
