PSP For Non-Gaming
Friday August 22, 2008
One of the things Sony has been doing with the PSP right from the start is to make it possible to do all kinds of other things with the device besides play games. And despite Sony's attempts to thwart them, PSP homebrewers have been making the PSP do even more non-gaming things. In fact, you might even say that the PSP homebrew scene has been prodding Sony to create official updates that let the PSP do things that homebrew first made possible (you can argue the point, of course, but it's kind of cool to think that demand created by unofficial products may have spurred the creation of even better official releases).
Personally, I use my PSP for gaming above all else, but there are other things I do with it. For example, as you're reading this blog post, I'm probably somewhere in Pennsylvania on a road trip. And I have my PSP with me, plus memory sticks loaded with music, photos, comics and videos, and a case full of UMD movies. And games, of course. If you're wondering what to try next, here are a couple of resources I put together to help you decide what non-gaming PSP activities might be right for you. And don't forget podcasts. Treat them like music, and you'll have all kinds of great stuff to listen to (me, I have all those old Anime Today and Penn Radio shows to get through).
