Multi Firmware Module
Saturday June 17, 2006
As excitement about the (allegedly) forthcoming Undiluted Platinum modchip rises, blogger Ookm has revealed more details about his own PSP hardware hack project: the PSP Multi Firmware module.
The key differences between Ookm's project and Undiluted Platinum seem to be that the Multi Firmware module is not a replacement chip, and requires much less soldering to install. Its primary purposes are for hacker and developer research, for 1.0 and 1.5 firmware users to be able to temporarily switch to higher firmwares for added functions, and for unbricking bricked PSPs.
For people who (like me) have updated their firmware all along, but would like to be able to switch to older firmware, or to custom firmware, it still looks like the Undiluted Platinum modchip will be the best bet. It remains to be seen, though, and I'll be watching any developments with great interest. (Via PSP Updates.)
